Live Wedding Painting at The Edward Anne Estate

In August, I had the opportunity to paint a wedding live at The Edward Anne Estate at Bavaria Downs in Chaska, Minnesota.

As a Minnesota live wedding painter, one of my favorite parts of each event is figuring out what makes a particular wedding and setting unique, and The Edward Anne Estate gave me plenty of inspiration. For this wedding, the venue itself played a major role in the finished piece.

An 18x24 Live Wedding Painting Featuring The Edward Anne Estate

Rather than making the couple fill most of the canvas, we chose an 18x24-inch composition that prominently featured The Edward Anne Estate itself, with the couple appearing on a smaller scale within the scene.

I loved this approach for such a beautiful venue. The architecture and surrounding landscape became part of the story of the wedding day rather than simply serving as a background.

That's one of the things I enjoy about live wedding painting: every painting can be approached differently. Some couples want themselves to be the clear focus of the finished piece, while others love the idea of capturing more of the venue and atmosphere surrounding them.

For this painting, giving the venue more room on the canvas felt like the perfect choice.

Painting Live During Cocktail Hour

I painted throughout the wedding day, but cocktail hour was when guests the guests really connected with the painting.

As the painting began to take shape, guests could stop by, see the progress, and watch recognizable parts of the venue emerge on the canvas. It's one of my favorite aspects of working as a live event painter. The finished painting becomes a keepsake for the couple, but watching it come together also becomes a part of the experience for their guests.

I always enjoy the conversations that happen while I'm painting. People stop to see what's changed since the last time they walked by, ask about the process, and point out details they recognize from the day.

Adding Bennett to the Wedding Painting

There was one particularly important detail that couldn't be left out: Bennett.

Bennett, the couple's dog, is such an important part of their lives that he was included in their wedding ceremony. Once I knew that, it only felt right for him to have a place in their painting as well.

I incorporated Bennett into the finished scene alongside the couple. Details like this are one of the reasons I love creating custom wedding artwork. A wedding painting doesn't have to be a literal snapshot of one exact second. It can bring together the people, pets, setting, and smaller details that tell the story of the day.

Years from now, I hope the painting reminds them not only of what The Edward Anne Estate looked like on their wedding day, but of the little pieces of their life together that made the day theirs.

The Edward Anne Estate was such a fun venue to paint because of how much visual interest it offered. Creating the venue on a larger scale allowed me to capture more of the setting while still keeping the couple at the heart of the composition.
